Lionel Pereira

Hi, my name is Lionel. I started smoking cannibis and drinking alcohol on a very regular basis since the age of 17. I did this because I wanted to escape the reality of a disfunctional family filled with abuse and violence. I didn't feel loved by my family at times and this caused me to fall into the wrong crowd of friends who used drugs and committed crime. I began to follow their path and began to get into trouble with the law.

In 2008 I was remanded in prison for assaulting my girlfriend and I thought that I would be imprisoned for a couple of years. I asked God to change my life and get me out of prison, if He was real. Within 10 months in remand prison my mother told me that a Christian rehab called Teen Challenge was willing to take me in. The courts granted me bail on the 21st of August 2009 to Teen Challenge. I was so happy that I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I knew then that God is very much real. After 5 months at Teen Challenge, I got moved to Victory Outreach Men's Recovery Home in South Auckland. It was a 12 month course and the courts sentenced me to the program. I learned so much about God in that 12 months and I'm still learning everyday.

In early 2011 graduated the Victory Outreach Men's Recovery Home and I've been blessed with an awesome job selling internet and I'm studying to become a personal trainer. I now have an awesome relationship with my family and I give all the glory to my Father in heaven who loves me so much that He gave His Son Jesus to die for my sins. I thank God for my mother, father, brother, Pastor Tony and Veronica Romero, Victory Outreach Church, the Men's Home and the staff who supported and taught me so much. God bless you all.
